Glass
Knitting Needles
These
glass knitting needles are handcrafted in Helston, Cornwall by Frank
Timmins. They are replicas of a 19th century pair on display in the
Museum of Witchcraft. West country
witches would use them to cast
spells, repeating an
incantation with each stitch. When
the power of the spell reached its height, the knitting would be pulled
from the needles and flung into the fire, thereby releasing the wishes
to the universe.
These
needles are also great for regular knitting. Try
some and tell us what you think. The size we currently hold is 9mm (US
13).
Because
these needles are hand made they are all slightly
different and lengths
may vary by a few millimetres. They
are supplied with a hand made black or red felt tasselled pouch.(Tassel
colours vary.) A small fact sheet is also supplied.
